Freddy Todd's latest EP is an undertaking of epic proportions. The 9 track package includes three originals (the unedited original version of 'Grind Baby' from 'Ghost Dance Messiah' as well as the previously unreleased tracks 'Blowin Good' and 'Space 5 Penthouse') and six remixes from some of glitch-hop's freshest producers of the moment.
The title track 'Space 5 Penthouse' is remixed by up-and-coming phenom NiT GriT who takes the track into pummeling wave drop dubstep territory. Vancouver's Ill-Esha on Haunted Audio turns 'Blowin Good' into a laid back purple wow synth spectacular. Elfkowitz runs 'Detroit Gets It' through his heavily hip-hop inflected sample bank for a stomping mix. Muti Music / Car Crash Set artist Inaudible gives us a raging mix of 'Thug Tastic', taking the second half of the track back to the jungle era (no, really!). Daly City's latest signing Samples obliterates 'Grind Baby' and restitches the remnants into a glitch-hop marauder. Finally, the Daly City label don himself Mochipet brings the EP to a close with a mind blowing mix of dirty South drum kits and breathing synthesizers, all at half dubstep's pace.
This is not the EP to sleep on, there is something for everyone and these cuts will surely be heard in sets all over the West Coast and beyond this coming festival season. |
